Centrifugal Water Pumps

What are centrifugal water pumps? A centrifugal water pump is a pump that uses a specialized design that makes use of rotating fans (called an impeller) to move liquid through its pipes or tubes. Centrifugal water pumps resembling those of modern design first appeared in the 1850s.

Many people today are choosing centrifugal water pumps over old-fashioned sump pumps because they use much less energy, they are easier to keep in working order, have a longer life expectancy, and often times come with a longer manufacturers warranty.

It is very important to remember that liquid actually moves through the mechanism of a centrifugal water pump -- for that reason you may want to avoid using them if you must pump water that is filled with a lot of waste, debris or other suspended solids. Typically you can purchase centrifugal water pumps with a recessed-impeller or open-impeller design. These water pumps can be quite powerful -- they can move water to a height of around 20-30 feet -- more than enough power for most common pump-out jobs.
